Barenboim Nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize
Conductor and pianist Daniel Barenboim will be nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize.
The Argentinean born musician received the support of 2,500 of his fellow citizens after years of making music into a channel of peace and conversation between Israelis and Palestinians.
Barenboim, along with his late friend Edward Said, founded the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra back in 1999, an organization that brought together Israeli and Palestinian musicians.
Barenboim’s actions were sometimes controversial among the sides, but he was quoted saying “Music cannot solve conflicts, but music has the ability to make people interested and passionate about the same thing.”
The 69 year old musician will receive the nomination next week in Buenos Aires.
